New government proposals could help with debt management

There may be more help given to those in need of debt help, following comments from consumer minister Edward Davey.

Mr Davey said when things go financially wrong for some people there are several different debt options available.

"[I] want to examine how the existing insolvency regime can be made to work better," he stated.

His comments follow a call for evidence by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to the public, asking for their views regarding existing personal insolvency and consumer credit regimes.

The government is seeking opinion on a variety of coalition commitments, which include a requirement for credit card companies to provide consumers with access to electronic statements.

This will be intended to allow Brits to asses whether an alternative product would offer them better value for money.

Earlier this week, Raffick Marday from compareprepaid.co.uk warned individuals using reward credit cards for purchases may be at risk of losing out on any potential benefits if repayments are not met in full each month.
